Wilde was a highly designed and artistically directed production as part of the Melbourne International Fringe Festival. Ben designed the set, and was mentored by Anna Tregloan, resident artist at the Malthouse Theatre. This connection proved very valuable and he learned a lot about process.
The original script included some of Oscar Wilde’s short stories and so the set referenced ‘wild’ as a theme, the train station setting of the play and the Art Nouveau period in which Oscar Wilde lived. One element of the set was a folded floor which was packed up by the actors to form suitcases – a strong theme of the play.
